Last week I have had a meeting in real-life with a 'Destonian' here in the Netherlands. It was a friendly meeting and we enjoyed the sun together. During that talk we soon realized that our perspectives on life were miles apart. I had written about quite a few elements before in 2007/2008 (1, 2) and although I had promised myself not to invest too much time in this destenian perspective, I wanted to make an exception, like I did in March (3).
Instead of going through all the well-known elements again, I want to talk about a new element, or 'rule' that I have learnt in this conversation. It seems that in the destenian belief-system it is just like in Islam or Christianity or perhaps a certain new-age philosophy: once you accept a certain belief-system you have to accept every single element within it: it's like an 'all-or-nothing'-approach. There is no room for doubting any single element, at least so it seems.
PROJECTION
One of the most extreme rules that I came across was the rule which says that "everything you say about another really is about you". I would be the last one to deny the existence and importance of the concept of projection, but the extremity of this destonian rule is a bit too simplistic to take seriously.
As goes for their perspective on thought ("Thou shallst not think"), there are no nuances to be found with respect to the phenomenon of projection (or transference and counter-transference).
The concept of projection refers to the psychological idea that when you say (or think) something about someone else, chances are that you also say something about yourself, and often something that you don't want to accept in yourself. As is depicted in the Osho-Zen Card above, called 'Projection' (4), we often don't really see the person that we talk to, but we see the image that we have created of that person.
DESTENIAN SIMPLICITY
I strongly believe in projection and the concept that we often have certain ideas about people, which prevent us from really seeing the other people as they are. But I think it is rather simplistic to say that EVERYTHING you say about another person is 100% saying something about yourself, and NOTHING about the other. Such an extreme projection perspective is too far from the reality of everyday life.
Let me give you a few examples to clarify my position. Let's take a situation at a school. Like in every class there are several kinds of children: some are quiet, some are restless, some make jokes all the time, some tend to be offensive etc. If the teacher says to a child that is continually making jokes to be silent, he is saying something to that child. But does that mean that the teacher is saying NOTHING about the behavior of the child, but only about his own repressed desire to be funny? And if he corrects the offensive child is he 100% projecting his own repressed offensiveness?
Of course not!
Even though there might be these tendencies within the teacher himself, but that doesn't mean that he is projecting EVERYTHING he says. The 'destenian' extreme projection rule implies the impossibility to give feedback to anyone; it implies that it is impossible to describe the behavior of someone else, without merely talking about yourself.
Projection implies that your own unconscious colors or perhaps clouds your perspective on others, but it doesn't mean that it blocks or clouds your perception for the full 100%. Other people can mirror things back to you, but it depends on the people involved which elements are mirrored back. If someone has an issue with anger, they are likely to respond strongly to someone who gets angry easily: they will blame him for being so aggressive.
Someone else - who doesn't have an issue with anger - is likely to be far less sensitive to someone's angry behavior.
THE CONTINUUM AND NUANCES
I won't deny the notion that projection often plays a certain role in human interaction. In fact I believe that projection can be a very useful tool to get to know more about yourself and any hidden blockages within. Once you recognition any projections you can grow from them through understanding or forgiveness, which makes you less likely to use projection on that particular item in the future.
In the extreme destonian perspective there is no room for growth out of certain projections, since it will always be 100% projection. Within the destenian belief system there seldom is a continuum. They take a rather binary point of view. When I talked about the distinction between harmful and harmless thoughts I got the response that all thoughts should be banned. No matter what you think, it is bad news.

Projection is absolute - not relative theory. You can choose and/or make up exceptions in the mind - obviously you can :) - it's just that one can not see, understand, realise equality immediately, but we have to dig deep down in the mind layers / dimensions of self created separation. It's a process though, one can not become seeing instantly. Thousands of lives we've lived in this projected systematic reality. Stepping out of the mind cycles takes a lot of time and is a very slow process.

Realise that when you are descrbing a situation in the school system / matrix and children being pushed and forced into that system it's no wonder children's behaviour will be worse(ning). So one is coorected within the matrix which is all illusion. Therefor re-educate self on how to stop this matrix destroying our children's true self value as equal and one as all here. Children are equal to teachers. Therefor a system of equality and oneness will be implemented within the next twenty years --- www.equalmoney.org

Stop, so all may discover life as who they really are as the children are presenting who are born i nto this world. Hey Sylvie,
Bedankt voor je uitgebreide antwoord. Als je de uitdaging aandurft zou ik je willen voorstellen om eens samen in 'real life' onze gedachtenwerelden naast elkaar te leggen. Lijkt me wel interessant. Ik geloof dat ik ergens gelezen heb dat je in Noord-Brabant woont. Ik woon in Nijmegen en ik zou komende zondag met mijn auto ergens heen kunnen rijden als je er tenminste open voor staat.
Ik heb nog nooit in het echt met een echte Destenian gesproken! Ik ben ook wel geïnteresseerd in dat geldsysteem dat jullie zouden willen invoeren, want het kapitalisme heeft zo zijn beste tijd wel gehad, lijkt me.
